A few weeks ago I received an email from Dr Alex Mustard, one of the greats of underwater photography. My image of a seahorse giving birth had been awarded Runner-Up in the International Behaviour category of the Underwater Photographer of the Year, London 2015.
I was super-excited as this competition received 2,500 entries from professional and amateur photographers from 40 countries. It was also judged by Alex along with fellow industry pros Martin Edge and Peter Rowlands. I would’ve been happy to be placed in the Top 10 but to score Runner-Up was a real surprise.
So, here is my winning image. For several weeks last summer, I spent almost every second night diving under a local jetty to capture this shot. It took lots of patience and persistence and a bit of luck to be in the right place at the right time.
I’ve previously posted about my obsession with seahorses last summer, you can read more here.
